(Enough USB charging ports for everybody’s stuff? Oh yes!) Thoughtful, guest-centric design is how we do it… and all this in-room convenience comes paired with a fresh new look. Before booking, read reviews of the ship and specific cabins on websites such as Cruise Critic or watching YouTube reviews. Previous travelers can offer invaluable insight into noise levels, views, and overall satisfaction.

From finding the right destination to choosing the best departure date, we're here to help. Plus, our experienced travel consultants have access to exclusive vacation deals to make sure you get the best value for your time and money. Furthermore, the availability of different staterooms will change based on sailing dates and when you book your cruise. With more than two dozen unique ships in the fleet, more vessels under construction, and upgrades always being implemented, the exact style, selection, and number of staterooms of any specific type varies between Carnival ships. Carnival Breeze has the whole family covered — with water, that is — with a 320-foot-long Twister Waterslide™ at Carnival WaterWorks™. Just for the kids there's supervised youth programs Camp Ocean®, Circle 'C'® and Club O2®.

Balcony with a Hammock

Carnival Jubilee offers the same ride — the third of its kind on a cruise ship — in the deck 18, 19 and 20 Ultimate Playground area. Although it's often loud, busy and difficult to navigate, especially on sea days, it's a prime place to sit and people-watch. I found myself gravitating there repeatedly to enjoy coffee or a snack from the nearby JavaBlue Cafe while watching the cast from that night's show rehearse at Center Stage — something you can't usually do on other ships.

Speaking of liquid, Alchemy Bar® serves up cocktail concoctions made with ingredients a little less ordinary and flavors a lot more interesting. Then there's always something funny going on at the Punchliner Comedy Club™. On Carnival Breeze, fun-fan faves like SportSquare™, and mouth-watering dining spots like Cucina del Capitano®, are just the beginning of how this ship keeps the fun blazing. Every one of the suites in those categories is bigger than any suite found on Carnival Panorama.

Ways Cruise Passengers Get the Crew in Trouble

Passengers can carry on one bottle of wine or Champagne per person (21 years and older); this will incur a $15 corkage fee for consumption in public areas. Each person can also bring up to 12 standard cans or cartons of nonalcoholic beverages like juice or soda. Carnival Wi-Fi is generally fast and reliable, and Jubilee features StarLink connectivity.

In my balcony room, I had three standard outlets and four USB lightning ports by the vanity. There was also a USB port (non-lightning) on either side of the bed, just below the reading lamp. Carnival Jubilee has self-service pressing rooms on decks 4, 5, 9, 14 and 15 with ironing boards and irons that are free to use. Instead, passengers can send out their clothing for washing, pressing and dry-cleaning for a per-item fee. At the time of publication, prices started from $709 per person ($101 per person per night) for an inside cabin or $919 per person ($131 per person per night) for balcony accommodations.

Cruise Lines

Categories 4A through 4H are labeled and priced according to their location on the ship, and all offer twin beds that can convert to a single king. Some inside cabins can hold one or two extra passengers in upper beds that fold out of the wall. 4As tend to be located on the lowest passenger deck or in less desirable areas such as under the disco.

I'm not a huge drinker, so I didn't personally try cocktails from the Center Stage Bar (Deck 6) or Grand View Bar (Deck 7) in Grand Central. The former features a bit of a retro vibe, and the latter is backed by a giant light-up wall that looks like wave. Unique to Carnival Jubilee are two new bars in the Deck 6 Currents zone. The first one opened late, and despite my order being the first one of the day, it still took more than 20 minutes to be served.

Plus one free evening of Night Owls babysitting service, so you can enjoy some much-deserved alone time. Like standard inside cabins, they offer twin beds that convert into a single king. Some ocean-view cabins offer upper beds for third and fourth passengers.

You can also order room service or shore excursions via the TV, but it's much easier to pick up the (exceedingly cheap-looking) phone. Cabin decor in most cabins is a mesh of comfort, color and clean lines. In standard cabins, Carnival provides a bar of soap and in the shower, dispensers with body wash and shampoo. Spa cabins have upgraded Elemis amenities and Family Harbor cabins have split bathrooms, one with a junior tub and sink and the other with shower, toilet and sink. The rainforest shower head was a nice touch as was the thoughtful little foot bar for those who shave their legs.

And, finally, some cabins on Deck 9 and other parts of the ship have balconies that can be seen from above, so for those seeking complete privacy, these might not be your cup of tea. My stateroom also had a large desktop framed with a semi-circular vanity mirror that illuminates, a shelf above the desktop and additional drawers in the desk for storage. Cloud 9 Spa rooms include upgraded Elemis bath amenities, and the Excel suites also include upgraded bath products.

Unlike some of its biggest competitors, Carnival isn't known for a huge range of cabin categories on its vessels. Picking a cabin on a Carnival Cruise Line ship isn't nearly as complicated as picking a cabin on, say, a Royal Caribbean or a Celebrity Cruises ship. Hotels might have plenty of amenities, but we’re willing to bet they don’t have Broadway-caliber entertainment. We’ve got immersive shows in our Red Room theater that you wouldn’t even find in Vegas.

Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you’re looking to cruise with a view aboard Mardi Gras. A Junior Balcony stateroom features the same size balcony as standard Balcony rooms, just with a little less interior space. Any time you’re in your room, you’re just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel. On many cruise ships, inside cabins are smaller than oceanview and balcony cabins. On Carnival Panorama, for instance, most inside cabins measure 185 square feet.

Super casual items such as cutoff jeans, men's sleeveless shirts, T-shirts and gym shorts are supposedly not permitted, but I saw plenty of them in the dining rooms during dinnertime on Carnival Jubilee. The second quarter involves pool deck games where passengers have to dress up in football gear to complete team races. Of the performances, I most enjoyed two main-theater shows that are also found on some other ships in the fleet.

Choosing your cruise ship cabin or stateroom is an essential part of planning a dream cruise vacation. The right accommodation can enhance your cruise experience, providing you with a comfortable retreat after a day of adventure, but some choices may turn out to be an expensive mistake. The adjacent fitness center is on the small side but features for-fee personal training and organized fitness classes, as well as equipment that's free for passengers to use. Excel Suites, Carnival Jubilee's highest-level accommodations, receive all standard suite perks plus additional ones. Within those categories, Carnival Jubilee offers three types of special cabins.

Note that on some Carnival ships, specific categories of balcony cabins have larger balconies than most. On newer Carnival ships, a significant portion of cabins are balcony cabins — the rooms everyone wants these days. But the ratio of balcony cabins to non-balcony cabins on Carnival's newer ships isn't nearly as high as on the newer ships of some rival lines such as Royal Caribbean. Note that Carnival's two oldest ships — those that are part of the 1990s-built Fantasy Class — have relatively few balcony cabins by today's standards. (After retrofitting, they have around 150 balcony cabins, out of a total of more than 1,000 cabins in all.) In part because of this, Carnival has been phasing Fantasy-class ships out of its fleet in recent years. That means that when you're trying to find the best Carnival cruise ship cabin for you, you'll have an easier time than you will when booking with some other lines.
